In Attleboro, Massachusetts, a woman with special needs was rescued from a harrowing situation thanks to the quick thinking of a concerned citizen and the swift action of the police. The incident occurred in an MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) parking lot on Friday morning.
According to police reports, a woman named Dawn was walking her dog near South Main Street and Wall Street around 6 a.m. when she witnessed a disturbing scene. She saw a woman being forcibly thrown into a suspicious van near Riverfront Drive, as reported by Boston25News. Dawn immediately contacted 911, providing a detailed description of the woman, the suspect, and the van.
Responding officers quickly located the van in the Riverfront Drive MBTA parking lot. Inside, they found the victim, a 57-year-old local disabled woman, being assaulted by 63-year-old David Rogers, according to 25News. Rogers reportedly confessed to forcing the woman into his van against her will and driving her to a secluded area of the parking lot.
“She could’ve been dead today and I saved her so I’m very grateful and thankful,” said Dawn, the witness, who requested her full name not be used. “Was there at the right time and right moment.”
Police officials emphasized that Dawn’s timely 911 call prevented a potentially tragic outcome. “You see something, you say something. I saw it, I said it,” she stated.
The victim was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital for medical attention. David Rogers was arrested and charged with aggravated rape, kidnapping, assault and battery, and indecent assault and battery on a person 60 years old or disabled. The specific nature of her disability was not disclosed.
