In Decatur, Alabama, a woman defended herself against an alleged home invasion by throwing a pot of hot grease on her ex-boyfriend, who police say pulled a gun on her. The incident occurred last Thursday, prompting a domestic violence call to which officers responded.
Upon arrival, officers found Larondrick Macklin, 31, suffering from burns across his face. According to a statement from the Decatur Police Department, an investigation determined that Macklin was the “primary aggressor in the altercation” and that the woman acted in self-defense. Macklin allegedly entered the woman’s residence with a firearm before she threw the hot grease at him.
Macklin was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. He was subsequently booked on two felony charges: burglary and domestic violence, according to court records. He is currently being held on a $300,000 bond.
A police spokesperson told USA Today that law enforcement is not at liberty to discuss the nature of the relationship between the victim and the suspect in an ongoing domestic violence investigation. However, AL.com reported that Macklin was the woman’s ex-boyfriend. This detail highlights the complexities and potential history involved in such incidents.
The case remains under investigation. The woman’s quick thinking potentially saved her from serious harm, illustrating the unpredictable nature of home invasions and the difficult decisions individuals face when confronted with violence.
