Michigan Father Allegedly Shoots 2-Year-Old Son in the Face with Shotgun

BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – In a shocking incident, a Michigan father is accused of intentionally shooting his two-year-old son in the face with a shotgun during a violent argument with the child’s mother. The incident occurred last Tuesday, and the details emerging from the case are deeply disturbing.

Michael Christopher Glance, 32, now faces multiple felony charges related to the April 16th shooting of his son, according to reports from WILX. Jackson County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kati Rezmierski stated that the altercation between Glance and the boy’s mother, Nicole McCarthy, escalated rapidly within their Blackman Township home.

According to mlive.com, the situation turned horrific when Glance allegedly held a pistol to the young boy’s temple and attempted to fire, but the weapon malfunctioned. In response, the mother reportedly grabbed the child and secured him in a car seat. Glance then allegedly retrieved a shotgun, came outside, and fired at the vehicle, causing devastating injuries to his son’s face. Authorities say that Glance also fired at the mother as she fled the scene with her son, but the shotgun malfunctioned a second time.

The two-year-old, identified as Ryker, was immediately transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Health before being transferred to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. As of the latest reports, he remains in critical condition. Michael Glance faces three counts of assault with intent to murder and felony firearms charges, according to prosecutors.

“The doctors at Mott are miracle workers,” said Doug McCarthy, the boy’s grandfather, on Thursday, April 18. He added, “(Ryker’s) doctors have been fantastic, and we’ve had so many people tell me they were praying for him and offering support.”

Glance has been arrested and charged with three counts of assault with intent to murder and felony firearms. He is currently being held on a $10 million bond and is scheduled to appear before District Judge Michael Klaeren on May 1 for a preliminary examination, WILX reported.

The community is reeling from this act of violence against a defenseless child. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses. The critical condition of young Ryker remains a central concern, with many hoping for his recovery.
