Wounded Texas Officer Recovering After Shooting

FOREST HILL, Texas – A Forest Hill police officer is recovering after being shot early Wednesday morning, and the suspect is dead. The incident occurred on the 6600 block of Forest Hill Drive at approximately 2:30 a.m.

According to Forest Hill Chief of Police Dan Dennis, Officer Naqirra Williams, 24, is in stable condition at a local Fort Worth hospital. Chief Dennis stated that Officer Williams is expected to make a full recovery.

The individual believed to have shot Officer Williams was found deceased after a short chase in the officer’s patrol unit. Police have not yet released details about what led to the shooting or any interaction between the officer and the suspect prior to the incident.

Cathy Wise, a Forest Hill resident, noticed the heavy police presence while passing by a shopping center. “I’ve seen chaos. I can’t believe all the stuff that’s going on around here,” Wise told NBCDFW. “I just saw all the lights and everything’s taped off. I just hope that police officer’s going to be fine.”

Across the street at a 7-Eleven, a store worker named Thoal Lul recounted the sound of gunfire. The store’s front doors appeared to be damaged by gunfire, and evidence markers were visible on the ground in front of the store and in the street. “I just duck. We all duck and tried to scatter and then boom! One shot hits and then another three – boom, boom, boom,” Lul said.

Following the shooting, the suspect, whose identity remains unreleased, allegedly stole the officer’s patrol car and led police on a brief pursuit to U.S. Highway 287 and Interstate 30. The suspect was later found dead; however, officials have not disclosed the cause of death.

Chief Dennis confirmed that the Forest Hill Police Department requested the Texas Rangers to lead the shooting investigation, with assistance from the Fort Worth Police Department. The investigation is ongoing, and further details have not been confirmed. This incident underscores the dangers law enforcement officers face daily and the importance of community support during such times. The shooting serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved in patrol work.
