K9 Apprehends Suspect After Officer Assault

In Newburgh, New York, a police K9 was instrumental in subduing a suspect who had allegedly punched a police officer. The incident, captured on video, shows the K9, named Lee, taking down the suspect after the officer was struck in the face.

According to Randy Martinez, a Newburgh resident, the incident began when a man, identified as 31-year-old Tony Mann, trespassed onto his property and allegedly threatened him with a knife. Martinez stated he was leaving his house with a friend when Mann approached his driveway. Feeling threatened, Martinez contacted the police.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to engage with Mann, who exhibited erratic behavior. The situation escalated when Mann allegedly punched Officer Roman Scuadroni in the head. In response, Officer Scuadroni released K9 Lee, who immediately engaged the suspect, biting his arm. The officer then moved in to restrain Mann around the neck, eventually forcing him to the ground. Another officer arrived to assist in the arrest.

K9 Lee maintained the bite until Officer Scuadroni called him off. Scuadroni sustained minor cuts and injuries during the altercation.

Investigators discovered a folding knife on Mann. He was taken to a local hospital for intoxication and treatment for the dog bite. Mann faces charges including trespassing, third-degree assault, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, and second-degree menacing.

The incident highlights the role of police K9 units in assisting law enforcement in potentially dangerous situations. The video of the incident was shared on social media, with the person who shot the video emphasizing that the police response was justified given the circumstances.
