Giuliani Rips De Blasio Over Videos of NYPD Officers Getting Doused with Water

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has launched a scathing attack on current Mayor Bill de Blasio, following the emergence of videos depicting NYPD officers being doused with water while on duty. Giuliani condemned these acts as a dangerous sign of disrespect for law enforcement, directly blaming De Blasio’s leadership for fostering such an environment.

“What we’re seeing is a direct result of a mayor who doesn’t have the backs of his police officers,” Giuliani stated in a recent interview. He argued that the incidents, captured in various videos, are not isolated pranks but symptomatic of a broader erosion of respect for authority and a decline in support for the NYPD under the De Blasio administration.

Giuliani, known for his “zero tolerance” approach to crime during his tenure as mayor, drew a sharp contrast between his era and the current climate. “When I was mayor, we made it clear that disrespecting or assaulting a police officer would have severe consequences,” he said. “There was a clear message that the city stood firmly behind its police force. That message is dangerously absent today.”

The former mayor warned that such incidents could lead to a demoralized police force, potentially impacting officer safety and their willingness to proactively engage in community policing. He emphasized that a lack of visible support from city leadership emboldens those who wish to challenge law and order.

Giuliani called for Mayor de Blasio to take immediate and decisive action to condemn these acts and to publicly and unequivocally support the NYPD. “This isn’t just about water; it’s about the safety of our officers and the security of our city. Leadership needs to step up now,” he urged. The sentiment echoes growing concerns about the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining public order.
